LGSETA (Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority) Profile
The Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority, also known as LGSETA, is a training establishment that commits themselves to providing skills development programmes towards the students, the unemployed, and current employees who wish to further advance themselves in their respective fields. It is hoped that through the initiatives conducted by the establishment, they are able to meet the local government sectors needs for individuals with scarce skills sets. Considered as one of the 21 SETAs available in Souht Africa, LGSETA is directly supervised under the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).

About LGSETA (Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority) Bursaries 2020-2021
The Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority (LGSETA) is offering bursaries towards students who would like to receive financial assistance. This programme allows well-deserving students to push through their studies without having to think about the monetary aspects of their academic pursuits. As per the agreement with the Department of Higher Education and Training, the bursary will only accommodate these following LGSETA Scarce and Critical Skills courses below:

  • Policy and Planning Manager
  • Civil Engineer
  • Accountant (General)
  • Chief Financial Officer
  • Civil Engineering Technician
  • Construction Project Manager
  • Paramedic
  • Urban and Regional Planner
  • Internal Audit Manager
  • Compliance Officer (Risk Officer)
  • Legal Advisor/Officer
  • Electrician (General)
  • Building Construction Supervisor
  • Town Planning Technician
  • Water Quality Technician
  • Civil Engineering Technologist
  • Water Plant Operator
  • Plumber (General)
  • Community Development Worker
  • Fire Fighter
  • Internal Auditor
  • GIS Specialist
  • Finance Clerk/Administrator
  • Project Manager

Final selections will be made based on these these following preferences below as well:

  • South African Citizens
  • Previously Disadvantaged Individuals
  • Unemployed Youth
  • People with Disabilities

Bursaries are open towards students who are planning to continue their studies in any Public Universities, TVET Colleges, or Universities of Tehcnology. Additionally, they must be studying in South Africa. Selected awardeees of the bursary will be granted a total amount of ZAR 50 000 to cover several student-related expenses, such as registration fees, tuition expenses, prescribed study materials, and accommodation costs on a yearly basis.

LGSETA (Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority) Bursary Requirements
To apply for the LGSETA Bursary, all incoming candidates must be able to fulfill the qualifications that comes with the programme. Each of these items below will determine whether you will be accepted by the bursary or not. Therefore, please pay attention to all of the requirements that have been standardized below:

  • Candidates must currently be unemployed
  • Candidates must currently be between the ages of 18-35 years old
  • Candidates must be admitted into an accredited public institution
  • Candidates who have received a bursary from another institution must notify the LGSETA beforehand – if this is the case, LGSETA holds all rights to withdraw the financial asisstance
  • The LGSETA Bursary is an annual programme that can be renewed on a year basis
  • Must be an official citizen of South Africa
  • Must have a full qualification that is recognized on the NQF/NCV/N Levels standard (must above a year.)

How to Apply LGSETA (Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority) Bursary 2020-2021
Think you have what it takes for the LGSETA Bursary? Then it’s time to begin your application procedure! To start off, all incoming candidates must first visit the LGSETA Careers Portal, and click “View All Jobs” to see whether the bursary is currently open for applications or not. If they are, you may now proceed to download the Official Application Form. Make sure that you complete everything that is asked on the application forms. Futhermore, candidates will need to have these following documents attached below:

  • A valid copy of your Identity Document
  • For first year students: a valid copy of your Grade 12 results slip
  • For continuing students: a valid copy of your academic results from previous years
  • Copies of your highest results and any existing qualifications
  • A valid copy of registration proof
  • A complete fee structure that includes official quotations, prescribed study materials, and expenses for accommodation
  • Valid proof of your parents’/guardian’s household income or affidavit (in unemployed), as well as valid copies of Identity Documents from parents/guardians.

After you are complete with your application dossiers, you will need to have them marked for the attention of LGSETA Bursaries, and send them through any of these various methods below:

  • All forms must be completed – any forms that are missing in information or other documentation will not be considered for the programme
  • LGSETA will not be responsible for any undelivered or lost forms
  • LGSETA will only offer a limited number of bursaries
  • Announcements will only be made to candidates who have been shortlisted. If you have yet to hear back from LGSETA within 30 days, we regret to inform you that you have not succeeded.
