The Department of Tourism is one of the many departments that have been established under the supervision and guidance of the local South African government. With the directions of the Minister of Tourism, Derek Hanekom, the Department of Tourism is striving to bring more positive attention towards South Africa in front of the general public. The key responsibility of this department it to continuously promote the wonderful tourism of the nation, and to always come up with methods to attract not just international tourists, but domestic tourists as well.

About Department of Tourism Bursaries 2020-2021
The National Department of Tourism is offering generous bursaries to South African students who are currently pursuing their studies in tertiary institution. The bursary programme is not just extending their arms towards undergraduate students, but also postgraduate students as well. To be able to partake in this bursary, candidates must be continuing their studies in any one of these listed courses below:

  • Construction Project Management (Management of Tourism Infrastructure: Regulations, Procedures and Monitoring)

  • Tourism Management (Destination Development)
  • Finance / Accounting
  • Communications (Graphic / Web Design)

Department of Tourism Bursary Requirements
The Department of Tourism Bursary is a programme that wants to provide assistance towards individuals who truly require the financial aid. Therefore, an eligibility criteria that been standardized as a means to fully assess all incoming candidates. This way, the committee will have an easier time seeking out for students who are well deserving enough of the bursary.

The Department of Tourism Bursary Requirements are as follows:

  • Officially recognized as a citizen of South Afirca
  • Currently attaining their education in a recognized Educational Institution in South Africa
  • Must be pursuing any one of the study courses that have been mentioned above
  • Be will to sign an agreement directly with the Department
  • Be prepared to be involved in a counter-service programme with the Department once they have finished their overall studies
  • Must not be attaining any other bursaries.

How to Apply Department of Tourism Bursary 2020-2021
Applications for the Department of Tourism Bursary are conducted both online or offline. If registering through the Internet is your choice, you may proceed to attain your application form at the Official Department of Tourism Website. However, if you are more comfortable in doing your applications offline, you can simply ask for an application form directly at the reception of the National Department of Tourism.

Once you have received your application form, be sure to have it filled in with complete information. Similarly, all information provided must be truthful and accurate. Candidates discovered to be falsifying any part of their applications, or send in incomplete applications, will automatically be disqualified from the bursary programme applications.

On top of filling in your application forms, candidates must have these following documents attached to their application dossiers as well, such as:

  • Valid copies of their available qualifications
  • Latest academic records/transcripts
  • Valid copies of Identity Document
  • Valid proof of registration
  • Valid proof of your guardian’s household income
  • A letter of motivation

All applications must be sent in through either post or hand delivery. Any applications that are sent through fax or e-mail will not be accepted by the committee. Make sure that you have these submission addresses stated for your future reference:

All applications must be sent in before the closing date. Should the committee receive any application dossiers that are sent past the closing date, the candidates’ applications will automatically be disregarded. Announcements will only be made to candidates that have passed the application procedure.     I would like to apply for the Department of tourism bursary for my post graduate studies, and would like to know the opening date when I can apply for this bursary as well as the closing date for the year of my post graduate studies in 2022.
