Citrus Academy Profile
The Citrus Academy is an establishment that is founded on a non-profit basis. An initiative that was originally sparked by the brilliant minds behind the Citrus Growers’ Association of Southern Africa, the purpose of Citrus Academy’s conception is to promote the development of the country’s citrus industry’s human resources department. The Academy tends to their responsibilities by paying attention to a couple of issues that are in relation with the industry, such as employment equity, black economic empowerment, production skills levels, and quality of skills delivery. By addressing these issues, the Citrus Academy hopes to be come one of South Africa’s pioneers in the human capital development programme and contribute to improving employment rates in the future.

About Citrus Academy Bursaries 2020-2021
The Citrus Academy Bursaries is a programme that allows tertiary students to attain financial assistance during the entire course of their academic studies. This programme is entirely backed up by the Citrus Academy Bursary Fund, an establishment that as started in the year 2006. From the very  beginning, this fund provides generous bursaries towards students coming from all different demographics, typically those who have held a keen interest in the specialization of agriculture. As of now, more than 95% of their grantees has succeeded in finishing their studies, all thanks to their bursaries.

The bursary will provide a sum of financial assistance that will help cover several student-related expenses, which includes tuition costs, research expenses, on-campus accommodation, and prescribed study materials. The Citrus Academy Bursaries are available towards students who are pursuing their studies in either Universities, Universities of Technology, or Colleges. However, priority is ultimately given towards agriculture students who are concentrating on the subject of Citrus Production.

Citrus Academy Bursary Requirements
The Citrus Academy Bursary is only available towards students who are able to fulfill the eligibility criteria that has been standardized by the committee. Provided that you are able to meet all of these items below, chances are, you succeed in having your applications selected. Therefore, it is highly advisable that all candidates pay strict attention to these qualifications below.

The Citrus Academy Bursary Requirements are as follows:

  • Officially recognized as a citizen of South Africa, Zimbabwe, or Swaziland
  • Currently a full-time/part-time student in an accredited tertiary institution
  • Pursuing a study that has to do with Citrus Production/Research
  • Planning to start a career within the Citrus Industry.

Additionally, priority will be offered towards students who originate from any of these groups below (as per ranking):

  • Previously disadvantaged students
  • Relevance of the study discipline
  • Academic potential
  • Need for financial assistance
  • Candidate’s background with the Citrus Industry
  • Gender status (the bursary prefers female applicants)
  • Students with disabilities.

However, the requirements don’t stop there. Selected grantees of the Citrus Academy Bursary must maintain an academic performance of at least a D-average without any failure in their subjects. Furthermore, a minimum of four weeks of vacation work must be partaken by students of all study levels, be it undergraduate, diploma, or certificate students. Upon successful graduation from their studies, grantees are to allocate the years they have been offered the bursary to work in the Citrus Industry. Should any of the grantees fail to tend to any of their responsibilities, they must pay back the entire bursary money to the committee.

How to Apply Citrus Academy Bursary 2020-2021
Applications for the Citrus Academy Bursary are conducted online. First off, all candidates will be required to fill in the available Official Application Form. Be sure you provide only accurate and complete information – applicants discovered to be giving false information on their application forms will be automatically disqualified from the application procedure. Applications will be received until its closing date, which is September 30th of each year.

Announcements will only be made to candidates who have passed the application procedure prior to the middle of December. This is when you have submitted the applications. Should you not receive any word from the committee by then, we regret to inform you that you have not passed the application procedure.
