Masakh’iSizwe is an initiative that aims to promote the development of the local youths in South Africa. The name itself, which is originated from the original language of the Nguni languages, has a significant meaning: “Let’s Build the Nation.” While there are a million ways and efforts that can be conducted to further build a nation, Masakh’iSizwe focuses on the departments on education and training. Through these two efforts, the initiative has high hopes that they are able to increase the quality of local society as the become the new generation to contribute to the local South African society.

About Masakh’iSizwe – Engineering Bursaries 2020-2021
Masakh’iSizwe is offering Engineering Bursaries towards students who are currently attaining their education in any higher education institutions (HEI). This bursary is conducted in partnership with the Department of Transport and Public Works, several non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and also a series of professional establishments that are involved within the engineering and built environment departments. The bursary is mainly allocated for students who are studying in University of Cape Town, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, or Stellenbosch University.

The Masakh’iSizwe Bursaries are provided for these following disciplines below:

  • Mechatronics
  • Quantity Surveying
  • Civil Engineering
  • Transport Economics
  • Town/City and Regional Planning
  • Construction Management
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Transportation Engineering
  • Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering
  • Property Studies
  • Architecture, etc.

The Masakh’iSizwe Bursary Programme:

  • Offers priority towards individuals who originate from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, females, students with disabilities, and individuals coming from rural backgrounds
  • Offers multiple support services programmes
  • Offers learning opportunities for selected awardees
  • Offers guarantee of employment upon successful graduation.

Selected recipients of the Masakh’iSizwe Bursary will be granted a series of financial benefits that will help them in the long-run of their studies, which includes coverage for these items below:

  • Full tuition expenses
  • Support service programmes
  • Prescribed study materials required by the university
  • Accommodation costs
  • Daily meals costs (or transportation costs.)

The Masakh’iSizwe Bursary requires all of their awardees to partake on a work-back programme. Upon successful graduation of the awardee, you must be employed by the establishment for each year you were awarded the bursary. Additionally, there are several duties that awardees must partake in, such as attending workshops, partaking in vacation placements, and participating in volunteer programmes.

Interested candidates of the Masakh’iSizwe Engineering Bursary must fulfill en eligibility criteria that has been set by the initiative. Each of these items below will truly determine whether you are accepted by the programme or not. Therefore, in order to guarantee success, please make sure that you fulfill all of these requirements below.

The Masakh’iSizwe Engineering Bursary Requirements are:

  • Officially regarded as a valid citizen of South Africa
  • Has already been accepted in any tertiary institution listed above
  • Preference will be provided mainly towards these following groups:
    • People with disabilities
    • People from financially disadvantaged families
    • Women
    • People originating from local rural communities.

How to Apply Masakh’iSizwe – Engineering Bursary 2020-2021
To being your Masakh’iSizwe Engineering Bursary applications, all candidates must first download the Official Application Form. Once you have downloaded the application form, please make sure that you follow the application form instructions below:

  • All candidates must already register for a university admittance before you submit your applications
  • Bursaries will only be allowed for full-time studies
  • Application forms must be printed
  • Applicable boxes must be filled in with an “X”
  • If you are applying for different institutions/different types of study courses in the very same institution, you will need to send in separate application forms
  • Applicants who have sent in their applications through a company (e.g. Bursary Collaboration Venture Partner Application), this just means that the Department is in partnership with the company, but not the student
  • Announcements will be made on February – should you not be reached out by then we regret to inform you that your applications has failed
  • Successful graduates who will work for the Department of Transport and Public Works must partake in a Professional Development Training Programme as a means of attaining their professional registration
  • Any application forms that are not filled in completely will automatically be disregarded.
  • The bursary programme is constantly being advertised by publishing firms such as newspapers from every May. Closing date of the bursary applications takes place on August 31st.Bursaries are advertised in all leading and community newspapers from May each year.
