NMISA, or short for the National Metrology Institute of South Africa, is a department that is mainly responsible for establishing a worldwide measurement system that is commonly referred to as the International System of Units (SI). What the NMISA does is that the department keeps on creating new findings in order to make sure that the metrology system used today is up to accurate and scientific standards. With a system that is used to create measurements, precision is crucial. Therefore, it is the National Metrology Institute of South Africa’s sole mission to ensure that the system is in good shape.

About NMISA (National Metrology Institute of South Africa) Bursaries 2020
The NMISA Bursary programme is dedicated for ambitious, talented young South African students who are pursuing an undergraduate degree in local universities. The bursary programme amounts to approximately ZAR 90 000 on a yearly basis, which can be used to cover several education-related expenses, such as:

  • Registration fees
  • Tuition expenses
  • Accommodation costs
  • Study materials

Upon graduation from your respective undergraduate courses, candidates will be given a guarantee to work under NMISA for the total duration that they have been under the bursary programme. However, bursars will be entitled to vacation work in which they will be given direct, on-site working experience in the NMISA environment. This will allow to instill a sense of knowledge and better understanding of what it’s like to pursue a career within the Metrology department.

The NMISA Bursary is only available for a hand-select number of courses that are relevant with the department’s line of work, including:

  • Engineering (Electrical/ Electronic, Mechanical)
  • Physics
  • Materials Science
  • Chemistry.

NMISA (National Metrology Institute of South Africa) Bursary Requirements
Interested in applying for the NMISA Bursary? You’ll have to fulfill these following qualifications beforehand. The purpose of this eligibility criteria is to ensure that all grantees of the bursary possess the potential and talents to truly make use of the funding they will receive – should they be accepted, of course. Which is why the committee will be keeping a close inspection on all incoming candidates, especially since they come from a department that prioritizes accuracy. The NMISA (National Metrology Institute of South Africa) Bursary Requirements are as follows:

  • An undergraduate student in a South African university
  • Studying any of the aforementioned university courses above
  • Currently holding a National Diploma or in the process of finishing up their P2 education
  • Show impressive academic talent
  • Has proven need for financial support
  • Be officially regarded as a citizen of South Africa
  • Has plan pursuing their further education
  • Great foundation on basic mechanical systems
  • Has astounding results for the Grade 11 and Grade 12 education.

How to Apply NMISA (National Metrology Institute of South Africa) Bursary 2020
Applications for the NMISA (National Metrology Institute of South Africa) Bursary must firstly be started off by checking out the NMISA Vacancies Page. From there on, you will be required to check the availability status of the bursary that you wish to apply for. After taking a look at its availability status, candidates can now start prepping up their application dossier. This will include attaching in your:

  • Most recent Curriculum Vitae
  • Valid academic result slips
  • Valid certifications
  • Valid Identity Document

Announcements will only be made to corresponding participants who have been accepted by the programme and NMISA holds all rights to grant the bursary or not. Furthermore, selected grantees will be subject to a series of credit and criminal record checks, just to make sure that you are clear enough to be acknowledged by NMISA.
