As one of her many efforts to give back to society, Oprah Winfrey has made a promise to build an world-class academy specifically for girls in the nation of South Africa. With the cooperation of the late Nelson Mandela, the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls was finally inaugurated in 2007 and is opened for girls who are from Grade 7 to Grade 12.

Winfrey was inspired by her own past when opening this academy.
