About De Beers Bursaries 2020
The De Beers Bursaries is a programme that offers a limited amount of financial assistance for un-bonded students who are currently or planning to pursue their studies in a University or Universities of Technologies. The bursaries will be catered to students who are Electrical Engineering (heavy current) 2nd or 3rd year students, Metallurgy/Chemical Engineering 2nd or 3rd year students or Mining 2nd or 3rd year students.

In addition, the bursary programme will cater to these following fields of studies:

  • Chemical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mining Engineering
  • Metallurgy Engineering
  • Mine Survey
  • Geology (specializing in Geotechnical Engineering/Rock Engineering).

All grantees of the scholarship programme will be given financial assistance that will be used to cover their these expense, such as tuition fees, prescribed textbooks, accommodation, meals, a laptop allowance, and a student allowance. For National Diploma students, they will also be entitled to an annual practical training programme. As for University student, they will be able to partake in work during their vacation period.

De Beers Bursary Requirements
Before your sign up for a De Beers Bursary programme, all candidates must have these requirements below fulfilled to make sure that they are eligible enough for the programme. The De Beers Bursary Programme Requirements include:

  • Holds a South African citizenship
  • Has a Grade 12 certificate with a minimum score of “C” in Higher Grade Mathematics and Science
  • Has been admitted into any of the required fields of study
  • Is an un-bonded student
  • Currently residing around the mine operation
  • Has completed their Matric or is currently in Matric
  • Plans on pursuing a full-time undergraduate study
  • Currently or planning to enroll in an established university
  • Has proof that he or she requires financial assistance
  • Preference: originates from Free State, Northern Cape, and Limpopo Provinces.

How to Apply De Beers Bursary 2020
If you would like to apply for a De Beers Bursary, visit the Career Page first to check whether the bursary programme of your choice has been made available or not. If it’s not available yet, come back to the Career Page some time again in the future to check for opening updates. If the bursary is available, then click on it and you may begin your application procedure.

All applicants will be asked to complete their application forms online. Besides filling in the application form, all candidates will be required to submit necessary documents. Please make sure you have all  of these uploaded, as any incomplete applications will not be regarded by the committee:

  • A valid copy of your identification
  • A passport photo
  • For current Matric students: your Grade 11 final results
  • For Matric graduates: your Matric certificate
  • For current tertiary students: an updated, full academic transcript
  • A letter of admission into any tertiary institution.

Only shortlisted applicants will be notified by the committee. These selected candidates will then be asked to partake in two interviews before they are regarded successful enough for the bursary programme or not. If you have not been notified within 30 days after the closing date, we regret to inform you that your application for the bursary programme has been unsuccessful.
